Helping persecuted Christians in Orissa

with one comment

About 2,100 Christian families driven from their homes in India’s Orissa state are receiving badly needed relief supplies from Southern Baptists. The Christians receiving the aid were attacked by Hindu mobs that blamed them for the murder of a Hindu swami in late August. They are living in relief camps, unable to go home unless they convert to Hinduism.

‘Moses Box’

without comments

From BGR prayer coordinator Lori Funderburk’s “BGR to GO” newsletter:

In South Africa many babies are born to very young girls. Unable to care for the babies, the young girls often abandon the babies in places where they hope they will be found and cared for.

BGR partner Tabitha Ministries has placed a “Moses Box” in one of the villages where this has happened often. They also do school presentations telling girls they can leave their babies in the box. Currently they have 30 orphans, most of whom are HIV-positive.

Will you pray for the volunteers that raise these children? Ask God to continue to provide for all of their needs. Pray that a Ministry Home will be built quickly for the most vulnerable children.

Critical burn injuries at Sanyati

without comments

Dr. Mark Byler, director at Sanyati Baptist Hospital in Zimbabwe, sends this urgent prayer concern:

Friday morning a family of seven was brought into the hospital with severe burns. They were storing fuel in their home and it exploded when preparing to cook. The have burns anywhere from 15% to 55% of their bodies. Two of the seven have died today, a 10 year old boy and 13 year old girl. Another one probably will die as well.

Please pray for this family. It is very difficult to treat these types of wounds, especially without water and electricity. The next few days will be critical in their chances of survival. Pray for healing and pray for wisdom for the staff as they treat him.
